Accessible Parking

The Transportation Services and Parking Services are committed to a welcoming and accessible environment. Parking spots designated for persons with disabilities are available in all Texas State parking lots and garages.

Parking in Accessible Parking

Vehicles utilizing accessible parking spaces must display both:

  • a valid Texas State Parking permit, and
  • a valid state issued ADA placard or license plate.

Accessible parking is not color restricted and vehicles with any Texas State Parking permit and valid state issued ADA placard or license plate may park in any accessible space; there is a fee to park in the Edward Gary and LBJ Student Center garages.  If all the accessible parking spaces are full, any legal space may be used with the exception of Reserved such as Visitor, or Service/Delivery spaces, etc.

Disabled Veteran License Plates

Changes to Disabled Veteran License Plates

"A new state law will change the requirements for Texans with disabled veteran license plates who wish to park in spaces reserved for persons with disabilities.

Senate Bill 792 requires that as of Jan. 1, 2022, anyone parking in a disabled parking space must have a license plate or a disabled parking placard that features the International Symbol of Access (ISA). Currently, disabled veteran license plates do not feature the ISA, and all Texans with these plates are permitted to use disabled parking.

Texans with disabled veteran plates wanting to use disabled parking spaces beginning in 2022 may apply for a disabled parking placard or for a new disabled veteran license plate with the ISA if the veteran meets the eligibility requirements for an ISA after Jan. 1, 2022. Applicants may submit their paperwork at their local county tax assessor-collector’s office. Current placards will remain valid; however, the new requirements must be met at time of renewal." - Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, August 26, 2021

Veterans with a service-related disability are exempt from paying parking permit fees but must always register their vehicle with Parking Services and obtain and properly display a Texas State physical or virtual parking permit.  Specific documentation required, contact parking@txstate.edu for more information.
